S.L.E.D. will introduce, extend and implement Basic Computer Literacy and S.T.E.M. Programming for all of our clients that work directly with our leadership staff, mentors, counselors and volunteers. We feel very strongly that computer literacy is an essential skill in today’s world. Our Mission is to become the premier Community Partner for those who are underserved, marginalized and recently released from incarceration. And data shows that accessibility and affordability coupled with the lack of educational opportunities are the major barriers and roadblocks for achievement and accomplishment.
With this programming component being instrumental in the continued educational model for our clients it will also offer several benefits, such as:
We will assess their current knowledge and experience, offering a learning atmosphere that is patient, comfortable, supportive, fun and interactive. We will encourage individual research and learning opportunities through online tutorials, videos, articles and interactive group activities that will allow everyone not only the ability to learn, but instill the benefits of Teamwork and extending a sense of accomplishment.
S.L.E.D.’s S.T.E.M.(science, technology, engineering & mathematics) Program will be an advanced educational offering for our clients that want to be introduced, continue to study or advance their knowledge within the 4 disciplines of S.T.E.M. This programming will focus on the ability of our clients to think critically, solve complex problems and drive and derive advancements in science and technology.
While the future stability of our economy is unknown and the United States faces many challenges; we do know “One Fact”; science and engineering jobs are growing 70 percent faster than other occupations. So introducing and offering S.T.E.M. Programming will give our clients a “Foot Hold” with the knowledge, job requirements, job openings, higher educational opportunities and what it takes to compete for the “High Tech” & ‘High Wage” jobs of the future.
We know that the COVID 19 pandemic has widened the gap between the rich and the poor in terms of education, training, wages, employment and health. Therefore S.L.E.D. knows it to be essential to provide equal opportunities to ALL individuals regardless of their socioeconomic status.
Our S.T.E.M. Programming will allow us to implement another tool to assist our clients and families the ability to break the cycle of poverty and achieve financial stability.
Both Basic Computer Literacy and our S.T.E.M. Programming will help to develop a variety of skill sets, including creativity, stimulating innovative thinking, aligning the demand and supply of skills and most importantly to provide Access to Opportunities, Build Confidence and Develop Workforce Skills.
